Here’s a simple, cheap way to make sour cream at home 🥛
Homemade Sour Cream (2 ingredients)
Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar
Instructions
- Stir lemon juice (or vinegar) into the cream.
- Cover loosely and leave at room temperature 12–24 hours.
- Once thickened, refrigerate. It will thicken more as it chills.
Keeps about 1–2 weeks in the fridge.
Cheaper Alternative (No Heavy Cream)
Not true sour cream, but works for cooking:
Ingredients
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1–2 tbsp milk or water (to thin)
Mix until it looks like sour cream.
Tips 💡
- For tacos, baked potatoes, sauces, both versions work great.
- If you want it extra tangy, add a little more lemon juice.
- Don’t heat homemade sour cream directly—it can separate.
If you want:
- dairy-free version
- only milk method
- or cheapest store substitute
